History

27 th September 1946 – C H Clarke & Co (Engineers) registered for business.

[1960] Frank James and Eric Ayers (Proprietors of James and Ayers Ltd, Bury Street, Birmingham) buy C H Clarke and move to the present site on Griffin Industrial Estate

1980's – C H Clarke comes through the recession and although hit hard financially, remains in business to fight on.

1987 – Francis James takes over his father's share of the business.

1992 – Eric Ayres retires from C H Clarke. Francis James becomes Managing Director and sets out visionary plans for the future of Clarke's.

1994 – C H Clarke are nominated for the Alex Lawrie business improvement awards. We also gain quality standard BS5750.

1997 – First CNC Machine (Hitachi Seiki 4NE) installed at C H Clarke. From this point on, a new CNC machine is commissioned on average every 8 1/2 months.

1998 – C H Clarke is installed with its first computer network and tailor made management software. The CNC machines are included in the network allowing programs to be written on the computer, loaded directly to any CNC machine in the factory and archived for future reference.

2000 – Our quality standard BS5750 is superceded by ISO9002. Online scheduling becomes another way of forward planning with customers.

2004 – We continue in our policy of striving to improve quality and ISO9002 is superceded by ISO9001: 2000.

2006 – To assist in ease of customer administration, we go live with electronic invoicing to suit customer requirements.

2007 – Complete internal factory refit.

Commissioning of a state of the art, 6-axis twin spindle CNC lathe ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of manufacturing technology.

Commissioning of a state of  the art Robotic Loading system to improve our competitiveness in an ever more challenging business environment.

Commissioning of an additional 4-axis Bridgeport Vertical Machining Centre.

2008 -  Complete external factory refit.

Commissioning of a 5-axis CNC lathe to compliment our 6-axis machine and give us greater flexibility when manufacturing more complex parts.
